Suphanburi pulled off a big upset in Thai League 1, edging fourth-placed Chonburi 2-1 on Sunday night in a fierce encounter that saw players from both sides receive red cards.

Chonburi were worst hit as their goalkeeper Chanin Sae-ear was sent off in the fourth minute. Suphanburi's red card came after 88 minutes when Danilo Alves received his marching orders.

Alves had put Suphanburi on course with a goal on 57 minutes and Ratchanat Arunyapairot widened the gap 20 minutes later. The Sharks pulled one back thanks to an own goal by Alves a minute before his sending off.

On Saturday night, leaders Buriram United saw Jonathan Bolingi convert a penalty and Supachai Chaided score in the second half to edge Port 2-1.

Port's only goal was headed home by Nattawut Sombatyotha in the dying moments, too late to spark a comeback.

"It is a big thing for us to have claimed three points from this match," said Buriram coach Masatada Ishii.

"It was a big game for both teams and we were carrying the burden of expectations of our fans."

The Buriram coach added that he wasn't giving much weight to the massive 10-point advantage the Thunder Castle enjoy over their rivals.

"To me, I am taking things on a match by match basis and winning every game is important for us.

"I simply told the players before the game that after our failure to claim full points in two matches in a row, we simply can't afford to lose this one."

Port coach Sarawut Treephan questioned a couple of refereeing decisions but added: "We can't say much because the VAR was consulted.

"The penalty awarded to Buriram in a very easy manner and we were denied one as well. We wanted three points but ended up with nothing."
