South Korean An stuns Tai to reach All England final

An Se-Young booked her place in the women's singles final of the US$1 million All England Open Badminton Championships in Birmingham yesterday.

The Korean star knocked out top-ranked Tai Tzu-ying 21-19, 21-13 to progress to today's title decider where she will meet either China's Chen Yufei or Japan's Akane Yamaguchi.

Mohammad Shohibul Fikri and Bagas Maulana stunned Marcus Gideon and Kevin Sukamuljo in three games to reach the men's doubles final of the BWF World Tour Super 1000 event.

The unheralded pair upset the top-seeded duo and fellow Indonesians 22-20, 13-21, 21-16 in 58 minutes to advance to the final.

They await the winners of the match between fellow Indonesians and second seeds Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan, the 2019 champions, and China's He Jiting and Tan Qiang.

In the women's doubles semi-finals, seventh seeds Nami Matsuyama and Chiharu Shida earned their berth in the final after beating South Korea's Jeong Na-Eun and Kim Hye-Jeong 21-8, 21-12.

China's Zhang Shuxian and Zheng Yu and India's Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand Pullela were to meet in the second semi-final last night.

Thai mixed doubles hopes Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Sapsiree Taerattanachai were scheduled to face Japan's Yuta Watanabe and Arisa Higashino in the semi-finals.

The world No.1 pair are bidding to win their seventh straight tournament and second this year. They won the German Open last Sunday.

The other semi-final was an all-Chinese clash, pitting second seeds Zheng Siwei and Huang yaqiong and Wang Yilyu and Huang Dongping, who are seeded third for the event.
