Poland's Banaszek wins second stage

Poland's Alan Banaszek won the second stage of the Tour of Thailand 2022 from Mukdahan to Sakon Nakhon yesterday.

The HRE Mazowsze rider crossed the finish line in 4:15.11 hours to win the 183.5km stage.

Dutch rider Raymond Kreder of Japan's Ukyo team was second while Australia's Cyrus Monk of Taiwan's Meiyo CCN Pro Cycling team was third.

Korean rider Park Keon-Woo of LX Cycling team was fourth while Germany's Lucas Carstensen of Bike Aid was fifth.

Ratchanon Yaowarat of Thailand National Team finished seventh and was the best Asean rider of stage two.

Banaszek took the yellow jersey after becoming the new overall leader with a time of 7:43.35 hours. The Pole was also the sprint leader (green jersey) with 32 points. Metkel Eyob of Terengganu Polygon Cycling team was the King of Mountain leader (polka Dot jersey).

Another Terengganu Polygon rider Muhamad Nur Aiman Zariff of Malaysia was the best overall Asean rider (purple jersey).

In the team event, the Terengganu Polygon Cycling team were the overall leaders with a time of 23:11.30 hours. Team HRE Mazowsze of Poland were second on 23:11.48.

Today's third stage is a circuit race in Sakon Nakhon for a distance of 117km, commencing at 9am.

The annual tournament is one of Thailand's most prestigious cycling events.

The 2022 edition ends on April 6 with the winner receiving the trophy graciously donated by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.
