Jongkolphan Kititharakul and Rawinda Prajongjai moved into the women's doubles quarter-finals of the US$1.2 million Indonesia Open in Jakarta on Thursday.

The Thai seventh seeds defeated Debora Jille and Cheryl Seinen of Netherlands 21-12, 21-12 and will next face top seeds Chen Qingchen and Jia Yifan today after the Chinese defeated India's Ashwini Ponnappa and Sikki N Reddy 21-16, 21-13.

Two of the women's singles players bowed out yesterday.

Phittayaporn Chaiwan lost to sixth seed Nozomi Okuhara of Japan 16-21, 8-21 while Busanan Ongbamrungphan also exited the tournament after she lost to He Bingjiao 9-21, 9-21 at the Istora sporting arena in Jakarta.

Eighth-seeded Thai star Ratchanok Intanon was due to face Line Hojmark Kjaersfeldt of Denmark in a late match last night.

The winner of this match will play either second seed Tai Tzu-ying of Taiwan or Iris Wang of the United States.

Mixed doubles stars Supak Jomkoh and Supissara Paewsampran were to play second seeds Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong of China in another late match.

Fourth seed Chen Yufei needed three games to overcome fellow Chinese Zhang Yiman 21-10, 15-21, 21-12 in 57 minutes.

He will next play Korean third seed An Se-Young, who defeated Kirsty Gilmour of Scotland while Okuhara will meet Chen.

In other women's singles results, top seed Akane Yamaguchi of Japan advanced after compatriot Sayaka Takahashi retired in the second game at 5-1. Yamaguchi won the first game 21-11. Wang Zhiyi of China stunned fifth seed Carolina Marin of Spain 21-17, 21-18.

In the men's singles event, top seed Viktor Axelsen of Denmark defeated Lu Guangzu of China 21-17, 21-9, fifth seed Anthony Ginting of Indonesia knocked out Hans-Kristian Solberg Vittinghus of Denmark 21-17, 21-9, sixth seed Lee Zii Jia of Malaysia beat Sameer Verma of India 21-10, 21-13, HS Prannoy of India downed Angus Ng Ka Long of Hong Kong 21-11, 21-18 and Loh Kean Yew of Singapore beat Toma Junior Popov of France 21-16, 21-9.

In a biggest upset, Lee Cheuk Yiu of Hong Kong knocked out fourth seed Chou Tien-chen of Taiwan 21-18, 21-13.
