Thai pairs to meet, Ratchanok quits

Thai mixed doubles pair Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Sapsiree Taerattanachai will meet compatriots Supak Jomkoh and Supissara Paewsampran in the second round of the Singapore Open today.

Top seeds Dechapol and Sapsiree defeated Malaysia's Choong Hon Jian and Peck Yen Wei 21-16, 21-12 in just 30 minutes in the opening round of the World Tour 500 event yesterday.

World No.20 Supak and Supissara came from behind to beat Indonesia's Zachariah Josiahno Sumanti and Hediana Julimarbela 22-24, 21-15, 21-18.

Dechapol and Sapsiree finished off Supak and Supissara 21-18, 21-14 in the same round at the Malaysia Open last month.

Supak and Supissara reached the semi-finals of the Malaysia Masters last week when Dechapol and Sapsiree suffered an early exit.

In Singapore, Supissara and Puttita Supajirakul will also face compatriots and eighth seeds Benyapa Aimsaard and Nuntakarn Aimsaard in the last 16 round of the women's doubles.

Also in the second round, Thai second seeds Jongkolphan Kittitharakul and Rawinda Prajongjai take on Japan's Rui Hirokami and Yuna Kato.

Thailand's Pichamon Phatcharaphisutsin and Nannapas Sukklad face Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma and Amalia Cahaya Pratiwi of Indonesia.

In the women's singles first round, fourth seed Ratchanok Intanon retired against Sung Shuo-yun of Taiwan when the Thai was leading 11-9 in the first game.

Sixth seed Pornpawee Chochuwong of Thailand defeated American Beiwen Zhang 21-18, 21-13.

She will next face Yeo Jia Min of Singapore in the last 16 round.

Busanan Ongbamrungphan, the seventh seed from Thailand, was stunned 21-16, 21-11 by India's Ashmita Chaliha.

Thailand's Phittayaporn Chaiwan lost to Chinese fifth seed He Bingjiao 21-9, 23-21.

Top seed Tai Tzu-ying of Taiwan beat compatriot Pai Yu-po 21-17, 21-16.

Indian third seed PV Sindhu defeated Germany's Lianne Tan 21-15, 21-11.
