Kantaphon falls to guns of Li

Kantaphon Wangcharoen bowed out in the second round of the BWF World Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark, on Tuesday.

The Thai star lost to sixth seed Li Shifeng of China 10-21, 12-21 in 45 minutes at Royal Arena in Copenhagen.

Li will meet Wang Tzu-wei of Taiwan in the second round.

Wang edged past 13th seed Lu Guangzu of China 21-16, 18-21, 21-19 in his opener.

Men's doubles pair Pharanyu Kaosamaang and Worrapol Thongsa-nga came through their opening test against Vinson Chiu and Joshua Yuan, defeating the US duo 21-18, 21-11.

They will play Malaysian seventh seeds Ong Yew Sin and Teo Ee Yi, who received a first-round bye, in the second round.

Supak Jomkoh and Kittinupong Kedren, who won their opener against Ade Resky Dwicahyo and Azmy Qowimuramadhoni of Azerbaijan 21-13, 21-12 late Monday night, will face sixth seeds Liu Yuchen and Ou Xuanyi of China in the second round.

Men's singles third seed Kunlavut Vitidsarn, a finalist at last year's tournament, was due to face Ygor Coelho of Brazil in the second round later on Tuesday.

Seventh seed Ratchanok Intanon, who received a bye in the first round, was to meet Hsu Wen-chi of Taiwan in the second round of the women's singles event.

In other first round results, Kim Ga-Eun of South Korea defeated Kristin Kuuba of Estonia 19-21, 21-14, 21-16 while Iris Wang of the US beat Jenjira Stadelmann of Switzerland 21-13, 21-13 in the women's singles first round.

Kim will face Thai 13th seed Busanan Ongbamrungphan while Wang will play triple world champion Carolina Marin of Spain in the second round.

Both Busanan and Marin had a first-round bye.
