Norasetthada and Aphisara lead Thais to overall title

Thailand won the Asian overall points trophy at the Track Asia Cup 2023, which concluded on Wednesday in Suphan Buri.

The Thai team ended the five-day competition with 12 gold, 11 silver and five bronze medals to finish on top of the standings. The team also won the Asean overall points trophy.

Norasetthada Bunma and Aphisara Srimongkhon ended the tournament on a high note, claiming their fourth gold medals after they won the men and women junior's sprint categories respectively.

Phetphanom Panmaung got the silver medal and Kazakhstan's Daniyar Shayakhmetov took bronze.

In the women junior's event, Amon­- nat Tammakitjawat joined Aphisara on the podium after winning the silver medal while Kazakhstan's Diana Kossolapova picked up the bronze.

Tanawat Saenta was a surprise winner in the men junior's scratch event. The silver medallist was Kazakhstan's Vyacheslav Sichkarev and the bronze medal was won by another Thai rider Nattakrit Kaeonoi.

Chanathip Rujirat had to settle for a bronze medal in the women junior's scratch, with Hong Kong's Tsz Yau Liz Lai taking the gold medal and Kazakhstan's Alina Alessenko winning silver.

In the men's sprint event, Korean cyclist Kim Dong-Hyun won the gold medal after defeating Wachirawit Saengkhamwong. Another Korean Kim Geun-Woon took the bronze.

The women's sprint event gold went to Korean rider Kim Chae-Yeon from KBCF team. Ratu Afifah Nur Indah and Wiji Lestari, both from Indonesia, took the silver and bronze respectively.

Nattakrit also won the gold medal in the men's point race event with after scoring 54 points. Kazakhstan's Vyacheslav Sichkarev (50) got silver and Saudi Arabia's Ali Jehad Alhassan (45) won bronze.

Chaniporn Batriya added another silver to the Thai medal haul in the women's omnium competition, won by India's Meenakshi Meenakshi.
