Thailand team manager Nualphan Lamsam had a meeting with new national coach Masatada Ishii on Wednesday to discuss and finalise plans for the War Elephants's upcoming international assignments.

Nualphan later revealed that the squad for an away friendly with Japan on Jan 1 at Tokyo National Stadium would be announced on Monday.

"I have left the job of selecting the players to Ishii and the team for the Japan trip will be named on Monday," said Nualphan, who is the frontrunner to take over the office of the Football Association of Thailand president when the election takes place in February 2024.

"In my capacity as the team manager, I will handle matters related to the national team's travel, hotel accommodation and other logistics.

"We have to take into account the fact that we don't have much time to prepare for the friendly with Japan and the 2024 Asian Cup in Qatar after that.

"However, Ishii has good knowledge of Thai football so I am confident he will be able to prepare the team well for these events.

"The standard of the Japanese team is very high so it will be tough game for us.

"We will start training on Dec 27 and depart for Tokyo two days later."

A victory for Kirins

Jaroensak Wonggorn and Willian Popp scored a goal each to help Muang Thong United pick up three points against Sukhothai 2-1 in a Thai League 1 game on Tuesday night.

The Kirins broke the deadlock in the 40th minute when Poramet Arjvilai set up Jaroensak to put the former champions ahead.

However, Sukhothai equalised through Chaowasit Sapsakulpol in the first-half injury time.

Shortly after the hour mark, Chaowasit turned villain, committing a handball inside the box to concede a penalty which Willian converted.
