Convicted perjurer Jomsap Saenmuangkhot remained behind bars on Friday after raising only 200,000 baht of the 800,000-baht bail requirement set by the court, her lawyer said.

She was still in Nakhon Phanom central prison as her relatives had been unble to raise enough money, Prateep Nuanset said.

Her friend Suriya Nuancharoen, who was also convicted of perjury on Wednesday in the same case and also sentenced to prison, was released on Thursday after meeting the 800,000-baht bail requirement.

The lawyer said that he would file a petition against the judgement with the Appeal Court within 30 days.

On Wednesday, Jomsap, 57, a former teacher in Sakon Nakhon province, was sentenced to eight years in jail for perjury as the court found her and other defendants guilty of producing fake witnesses to seek a retrial in her conviction and sentencing in the hit-and-run death of an elderly cyclist in Nakhon Phanom in 2005.

In that case she was sentenced to three years and two months in prison, but received a pardon and was released after serving 18 months.
