A fire hit Chatuchak market on Sunday night but there were no reports of deaths.

The Traffic Police and Jor Sor 100 traffic radio stations reported the fire around 9.15pm at the world-famous market in Chatuchak district.

Jor Sor 100 said firefighters brought the blaze under control in about an hour.

Rescue volunteers posted on Twitter that 30 shops were damaged and 2 persons were injured.

The fire started near Gate 1 of the market. Police are investigating the cause of the blaze, but a short circuit is believed to be responsible, according to media reports.

About 200,000 people visit the market's 15,000 stalls every weekend, operators have said.
