New army school offers intensive combat courses

A new military school which will offer intensive specialised training courses to both new and existing army personnel from all regions has opened in Nakhon Ratchasima.

Army chief Apirat Kongsompong had ordered the establishment of the school, which is located inside the army's special combat training camp located in Nong Taku, Pak Chong district.

According to the army's website, training started on Jan 10 and involved 300 military personnel who were selected from across the army.

Gen Apirat wanted the school to organise high-quality combat training for those who were selected for the programme, the website said.

The training courses were designed and executed by the army's Special Warfare Command.

In addition to re-training experienced soldiers, the school will also accept new recruits showing good potential -- including women.

Applications will be accepted by region and the successful applicants will participate in a 56-day intensive training course, after which they will be posted to serve with various army regions.

The new school will have five training courses each year -- with one reserved for female military personnel.
