Government vows hotel graft justice

Anyone who sought "commission fees" from hotels serving as state quarantine venues must be exposed and face legal action, Defence Ministry spokesman Kongcheep Tantravanich said.

Lt Gen Kongcheep said he had met hotel business operators in the eastern region earlier this week, acquiring the names and Line chat records of suspects demanding commission fees from them.

He said he forwarded the evidence to the chief of Pol Lt Gen Montri Yimyaem, commissioner of Provincial Police Region 2.

Lt Gen Kongcheep said hotels not receiving full fees and people quarantined in them who might have been denied services or food were victims of the alleged graft scheme, as well as the government, whose reputation was damaged. He added the ministry could not let this issue go.

"Anyone involved, no matter if they are military, police or public health officers must face [legal] action," Lt Gen Kongcheep said, adding they must be exposed.

Activist Srisuwan Janya filed a complaint with the Office of the Ombudsman this week so an independent body could probe the matter.
