NAKHON PHANOM: Two locked down villages in That Phanom district have been reopened after more than 1,400 people in contact with the sole Covid-19 patient all tested negative.

Provincial governor Kraisorn Kongchalad, as chairman of the communicable disease committee, issued the order on Tuesday.

Two villages in tambon Phra Klang Thungj were locked down last week, Moo 8 and Moo 15,  after a resident of Moo 8 was found to be infected with the Covid-19 virus. They have a  combined population of about 200.

The infected woman, a 51-year-old food seller, had been in close contact with a person who came from Bangkok for a home visit on Dec 28.  She was the first Covid-19 case in this northeastern province.

Health officials took nose swabs for testing from more than 1400 people in and around the  area who came into contact with the vendor. None of them were infected, the governor said.

Covid-19 containment measures were still in place. Officials would be sent to spray disinfectant in areas at risk of virus infection.

Those who traveled from at-risk areas were required to report to authorities and would be placed under quarantine. They faced legal action if they refused, an official said.
