People who fail to properly self-isolate after close contact with a confirmed Covid-19 case may face compulsory state quarantine.

The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration was discussing the possibility, CCSA assistant spokeswoman Apisamai Srirangson said on Friday.

It would apply to people exposed to coughing or sneezing by a Covid-19 case, had talked with an infected person for more than five minutes or stayed in a closed place with them for longer than 15 minutes without wearing a face mask, Dr Apisamai said.

These people would be required to go to a state quarantine facility, she said.

The facilities could also be open to exposed people at medium and low risk of infection who preferred quarantine to staying at home with other family members, especially elderly people, and risk passing on the disease, she said.

The CCSA would discuss the matter in more detail next week.
