Kalamae: Wants to show responsibility

Embattled emcee Patcharasri "Kalamae" Benjamas has quit hosting two popular TV shows after responding to charges about allegations that she exaggerated the benefits of her food supplement product.

The charges were lodged against her with the Consumer Protection Police Division (CPPD) by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

She finally met police on Monday after failing to comply with a prior summons.

According to the CPPD, Ms Patcharasri faces three charges. The first two include exaggerating her claims and advertising without permission, under the 1979 Food and Drugs Act, it said.

Ms Patcharasri is also charged with violating the 2017 Computer Crimes Act, which the TV host denies, the CPPD said. If found guilty on all three charges, she could be jailed for up to eight years and be fined up to 130,000 baht.

Ms Patcharasri took to her Instagram page on Thursday to explain her decision to quit Sam Saeb (Three Hotties) and Take Me Out Thailand programmes.

She said she wanted to show responsibility for her actions.

Ms Patcharasri also apologised to the public for her mistakes and pledged to heed judicial advice. She added that she now acknowledges prior warnings about exaggerating her products in advertisements.

On Monday, Achariya Ruangrattanapong, an activist lawyer with the Help Crime Victim Club, accompanied a consumer to file a fraud complaint against Ms Patcharasri with the Consumer Protection Police Division's Subdivision 4.
