There were 44 more Covid-19 fatalities and 3,644 new cases over the past 24 hours, the Public Health Ministry reported on Friday morning.
There were 3,482 cases in the general population and 162 among prison inmates.
Over the past 24 hours, 1,751 Covid-19 patients were diagnosed recovered and were discharged from hospitals.
Since April 1, around when the third wave of Covid-19 began, there have been 207,428 Covid-19 patients, 165,680 of whom have recovered.
Since the pandemic started early last year, there have been 236,291 Covid-19 cases, 193,106 of whom recovered.
The death toll was at 1,725 in the third wave and 1,819 from the beginning of the pandemic early last year.
Apisamai Srirangson, spokeswoman for the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration, said later in the afternoon briefing that the 44 new fatalities were 29-92 years old. Twenty-six were men. Forty-two were Thais. The rest were Myanmar and Lao nationals.
Twenty-two of those who died had hypertension and 17 had diabetes, while four had no chronic illness. Seventeen caught the disease from relatives.
Twenty of the latest fatalities were in Bangkok, 12 in Samut Prakan province, two each in Yala and Saraburi and one each in Kanchanaburi, Prachin Buri, Chanthaburi, Samut Sakhon, Suphan Buri, Pattani, Nakhon Sawan and Chon Buri.
The 3,644 new cases over the past 24 hours included 3,451 local infections and 31 imported cases. Of the local infections, 2,803 were confirmed at hospitals and 648 via mass testing.
Bangkok again logged the most new cases at 1,142, followed by 295 in Samut Sakhon, 215 in Yala, 192 in Pathum Thani, 186 in Samut Prakan, 183 in Chon Buri, 157 in Nonthaburi, 134 in Songkhla, 119 in Nakhon Pathom and 79 in Pattani.
Dr Apisamai said Bangkok had eight new Covid-19 clusters. Bang Khunthian district had three new clusters - 49 cases at a petroleum gas cylinder company, 33 at a snack company and 80 at a cosmetics company.
Other new clusters were found at a garment factory in Bang Bon and a plastic packaging company in Bang Khae. In Klong Sam Wa district, there were two new clusters of 55 cases altogether at two construction camps. Suan Luang district had another cluster of 198 cases at a construction camp.
The capital had altogether 107 clusters of Covid-19 cases, Dr Apisamai said.
Samut Prakan had a new cluster of 129 cases at an auto parts company in Bang Phli district. Many of them were vocational students who were trainees.
Pathum Thani had two new clusters – 56 cases at a snack factory in Lat Lum Kaeo district and seven cases at a wire factory in Muang district.
Nonthaburi had a new cluster of nine cases at a plastic product company in Bang Kruai district.
Nakhon Pathom had a new cluster of five cases at a slaughterhouse in Samphran district. The 31 imported cases were from Cambodia (28 including 17 illegal Thai returnees) Russia, Malaysia and Myanmar.
On Thursday 41,366 people were receiving Covid-19 treatment at hospitals, up from 39,517 on Wednesday. The number of critically ill patients increased from 1,564 to 1,603 and those dependent on ventilators rose from 445 to 460.
Global Covid-19 cases rose by 399,009 in 24 hours to 180.76 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 7,998 to 3.91 million. The United States had the most cases at 34.46 million, up 13,365.
