Health authorities on Sunday reported 42 more Covid-19 fatalities on Saturday and another 3,995 new

transmissions, bringing the accumulated toll to 1,912 deaths and the number of cases since the start of the pandemic to 244,447.

The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) said 3,950 of the new infections were in the general population and 45 in prisons.

It said Bangkok had again logged the highest number of both deaths and new transmissions.

The capital registered 27 fatalities, while Chachoengsao, Nakhon Pathom and Pathumthani had two fatalities each. Other deaths were registered in Phetchaburi, Chon Buri, Nakhon Ratchasima, Nonthaburi, Prachin Buri, Pattani, Yala, Udon Thani and Uthai Thani.

Bangkok also topped new transmissions with 1,370 cases, followed by Samut Sakhon  (289), Samut Prakan (231) and (Nonthaburi) 195, according to the centre.

The rising number of new cases and deaths in Greater Bangkok and the southernmost provinces led to the government's decision to enforce stricter measures in the provinces for one month starting from Monday.

The country recorded 35 imported cases, the CCSA said, led by 31 from Cambodia. Three of those, whose nationalities were no disclosed, crossed the border illegally.

The other imported cases were one each from Uganda, Kenya, Malaysia and Myanmar.
