Youths want say on climate

Thai youths are asking the government for an opportunity to take part in the policy-making process to fight climate change.

Aminta Permpoonwiwat and Phatteeya Yougsangan, who have been selected to attend the Youth4Climate event in the Festival of Sustainable Development between Sept 28-30 at Milan, Italy with 400 youths from 197 countries are calling for the inclusion of youths in government efforts against climate change.

They also asked the government to promote youth participation in other related sectors, such as sustainable tourism, environmental conservation, disaster prevention, as young people are often more adept in using communication technology, which can help it coordinate with different sectors to support the goal of mitigating climate change.

Ms Aminta said all youths at the meeting are well aware of the serious consequences of climate change to our planet and every living being, as they have to face them in the future.

As such, they are at the forefront of the campaign calling for major changes in all sectors to ensure sustainable development and climate justice.

"This is the time for collective change and action. It should begin with each individual changing their lifestyle to be more friendly to nature, then we must work from the bottom up to find new innovations and policies to help mitigate climate change," Ms Phatteeya said.
