There were 15 more Covid-19 fatalities and 8,158 new cases registered during the previous 24 hours, the Public Health Ministry said on Friday morning.
There were 7,916 cases in the general population and 242 among prison inmates.
This compared with 14 coronavirus-related fatalities and 8,167 new cases reported on Thursday morning.
On Thursday, 3,942 Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovering from the coronavirus.
Since the pandemic started in early 2020, there have been 2,308,615 Covid-19 cases including 85,180 cases this year, with 2,211,922 complete recoveries so far.
The death toll stood at 21,898 since the beginning of the pandemic, including 200 this year.
The kingdom's 24-hour high of Covid-19 fatalities was 312 recorded on Aug 13. The highest number of cases was 23,418 on Aug 18.
Apisamai Srirangson, a spokeswoman for the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration, said in the afternoon briefing the 15 latest fatalities were aged from three to 93 years.
About 60% of the fatalities were either unvaccinated or inadequately vaccinated. Some had been fully vaccinated, but the last shot was more than six months ago. Health authorities emphasised the need for booster shots, she said.
“The Public Health Ministry has found from its surveys in many areas that a third shot can boost antibodies and help control transmission effectively,” she said.
Bangkok reported two more coronavirus-related deaths while other central plain provinces recorded six more – in Chanthaburi (1), Chon Buri (2), Ayutthaya (1), Saraburi (1) and Ang Thong (1).
The Northeast had no additional fatalities. The South reported five more - in Pattani, Yala, Songkhla, Phatthalung and Satun.
The North had two fatal cases - in Kamphaeng Phet and Chiang Rai.
The 8,158 new cases included 7,905 local infections and 242 imported cases. Of the local Covid-19 infections, 7,807 were confirmed at hospitals and 98 via mass testing.
Dr Apisamai said that on Thursday 116,906 people were given antigen tests and 2,719 of them tested positive for Covid-19, potentially raising the number of new cases nationwide in the past 24 hours from 8,158 to about 10,000.
Chon Buri still had the most new cases at 825, followed by 766 in Bangkok, 735 in Samut Prakan, 441 in Phuket, 368 in Nonthaburi, 299 in Khon Kaen, 269 in Ubon Ratchathani, 191 in Pathum Thani, 189 in Chiang Mai and 181 in Samut Sakhon.
There were new clusters at eateries in Loei, Khon Kaen (illegally open pubs), Si Sa Ket, Chiang Mai, Nong Bua Lam Phu, Ubon Ratchathani and Udon Thani.
Clusters related to New Year parties continued to grow in Udon Thani and Amnat Charoen, Dr Apisamai said.
Workers returning from New Year holidays and religious gatherings caused new clusters at factories and workplaces in Udon Thani, Prachin Buri, Chachoengsao, Roi Et and Samut Prakan. Common causes were failure to undergo antigen tests and self-quarantine among at-risk people, she said.
On Thursday 74,795 people received Covid-19 treatment at hospitals (up from 70,594 the previous day), including 510 seriously ill patients with lung inflammation (down from 520) and 105 dependent on ventilators (down from 110).
Global Covid-19 cases rose by 3.17 million in 24 hours (up from 3.14 million the previous day) to 320.87 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 7,299 (down from 8,032) to 5.54 million.
The United States had the most cases at 65.24 million, up 806,493, and the most deaths at 869,212, up 1,969.
