7,422 new Covid cases, 12 more deaths

The country registered 12 more Covid-19 fatalities and 7,422 new cases during the previous 24 hours, the Public Health Ministry announced on Tuesday morning.

This compared with the 16 coronavirus-related fatalities and 8,008 new cases reported on Monday morning.

The 12 new fatalities were between the ages of 51 and 96 years old.

They included three in Bangkok, two in the other central plains provinces of Nonthaburi and Ratchaburi, one in the southern province of Phangnga, another in the northern province of Nan and five in the Northeast – Kalasin (3), Khon Kaen (1) and Amnat Charoen (1).

There were 7,133 new infections in the general population, 28 among prison inmates and 261 imported cases.

Of the local Covid-19 infections, 7,116 were confirmed at hospitals and 17 via mass testing.

Bangkok still had the most new cases at 1,254, followed by 780 in Samut Prakan, 478 in Nonthaburi, 391 in Chon Buri, 385 in Phuket, 190 in Nakhon Ratchasima, 150 in Si Sa Ket, 133 in Chiang Mai, 131 in Pathum Thani and 128 in Ubon Ratchathani.

The 261 imported cases included 117 from Russia, 30 from Kazakhstan, nine each from Ukraine and the United Kingdom, eight from the United States and seven from Israel.

On Monday 83,014 people received Covid-19 treatment at hospitals (down from 84,319), including 557 seriously ill patients with lung inflammation (up from 528) and 107 dependent on ventilators (up from 102).

The 24-hour period also saw 8,715 Covid-19 patients discharged from hospitals after recovering from the coronavirus.

Since the pandemic started in early 2020, there have been 2,447,964 Covid-19 cases, including 224,529 cases this year, with 2,342,765 complete recoveries to date.

The death toll stood at 22,185 since the beginning of the pandemic, including 487 so far this year.

The kingdom’s 24-hour high of Covid-related fatalities was 312 recorded on Aug 13, 2021. The highest number of cases was 23,418 on Aug 18, 2021.

Global Covid-19 cases rose by 2.02 million in 24 hours to 377.79 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 7,617 to 5.69 million.

The US had the most cases at 76.22 million, up 274,266, and the most deaths at 910,104, up 1,153. Thailand ranked 30th by its 2.44 million accumulated cases.
