2,162 new Covid cases, 27 more deaths

There were just 2,162 more confirmed Covid-19 cases on Sunday, and 27 coronavirus related deaths, the Public Health Ministry reported on Monday morning.

This was down from 3,236 new cases and 28 coronavirus-related fatalities reported the previous day. 

There were 2,160 local cases and two imported cases.

On Sunday, 4,879 Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovering from the coronavirus.

As of midnight Sunday, a total of 29,509 people were receiving Covid-19 treatment, including 13,833 in hospitals. The remainder were in hospitel facilities (2,502) or in home/community isolation (12,964), according to the daily update posted by the Department of Disease Control.

Of those in hospital, 761 were seriously ill patients with lung inflammation and 375 dependent on ventilators.

According to the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration, the 27 people who died were aged from 47 to 92 years, with the average age of 79. All were Thais.

Bangkok reported three more coronavirus-related  deaths and there were two in the adjacent provinces of Nonthaburi and Samut Prakan. Other central plains provinces further from the capital had eight deaths - two each in Suphanburi and Prachuap Khiri Khan, and one each in Kanchanaburi, Uthai Thani, Lop Buri and Nakhon Nayok.

The North reported six deaths - three in Chiang Mai, and one each in Chiang Rai, Lampang and Phayao.

The Northeast reported seven fatalities - four in Nakhon Ratchasima, two in Ubon Ratchathani and one in Si Sa Ket.

The South had one death, in Songkhla.

The vaccination programme continued, with 138.17 million doses administered as of Sunday. The government said 81.7% of the population had now received at least one dose of the vaccine, 75.9% at least two shots and 41.1% at least one booster shot. On Sunday, 30,801 vaccine doses were administered - 2,121 as a first shot, 8,026 as a second shot and 20,654 as a booster shot.

Since the pandemic started in early 2020, there have been 4,468,955 Covid-19 cases, including 2,240,754 cases this year, with 4,409,248 complete recoveries to date.

The accumulated death toll stood at 30,198 since the beginning of the pandemic, including 8,500 so far this year.

The highest number of Covid-related fatalities in a 24-hour period was 312 recorded on Aug 13, 2021. The highest number of cases was 28,379 on April 1, 2022.

Global Covid-19 cases rose by 297,830 in 24 hours to 535.43 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 476 to 6.32 million.
