Luxury Sathon condo construction permit revoked

The Central Administrative Court has revoked a construction permit and environment impact assessment (EIA) report of "The 125 Sathorn" luxury condominium project due to its building design being larger than permitted by law.

Chidchanok Lertampornpaisarn, manager of The Met Condominium juristic person, told reporters yesterday that the ruling was read by the court on Sept 27, ordering the construction suspension of The 125 Sathorn, which is built on a three-rai plot of land next to The Met Condominium on Sathon Road.

Ms Chidchanok said the lawsuit was filed by The Met juristic person and condominium unit owners against relevant state agencies that approved the EIA report and a construction permit for The 125 Sathorn project.

She said the project has impacted The Met's residents during its construction and will affect the quality of life of its residents and the nearby communities when completed.

She said the land used to be owned by Pebble Bay (Thailand), which had a 10-rai plot and a permit to construct tall buildings. It built The Met condominium with 66 storeys on a seven-rai plot of land. The project was completed in 2008.

But in 2004, the company sold the undeveloped three-rai land plot, which today is owned by PMT Property, a joint venture between Thoresen Thai Agencies Plc and two Japanese business partners -- Kanden Realty & Development Co Ltd and Toray Construction Co Ltd.

PMT Property launched The 125 Sathorn project last June. The 8-billion-baht project will feature two buildings with 36 storeys each. The project received EIA approval in August 2021.

However, Ms Chidchanok said The Met juristic person and condominium unit owners filed a complaint to the court arguing for the transparency of the EIA process. They also questioned the construction permit as The 125 Sathorn project is larger than the legal size limit for three rai of land, she said

The court's final decision can be a guideline for responsible government in dealing with such matters, she added.
