Foreign Minister Parnpree Bahiddha-Nukara has asked the European Union (EU) for support in dealing with the Myanmar crisis.

He made the request on Friday at the 24th Asean-EU Ministerial Meeting (AEMM) in Brussels, Belgium.

During the meeting, which discussed bilateral relations between Asean and the EU, Mr Parnpree called for a collective approach to maintaining peace and stability in the face of the many global conflicts which are testing the world.

Mr Parnpree mentioned the situation in Myanmar, in the hope the EU will support Thailand in humanitarian initiatives, as a first small step towards constructive dialogue between all parties in Myanmar and the international communities in the hope of finding a solution.

"Asean and the EU can work together to create changes," he said.

"We need to show our determination to cooperate with all parties around the world to develop an Asean-EU strategic cooperative partnership," Mr Parnpree said.

"Comprehensiveness is a core principle of the Asean outlook on the Indo-Pacific (Aoip) and we believe the EU has a free, open, rules-based and inclusive vision for the Indo-Pacific."

Mr Parnpree also asked for cooperation and investment in modern, clean and sustainable networks for energy, transport and digital technology to enable Asean and the EU to further become centres of global growth.

He said better infrastructure, transport connectivity and greater trade facilitation in the region could contribute to a dynamic new Thai-EU Free Trade Area in the future.
