Rail cops nab two men, 3kg drug haul

Prachuap Khiri Khan - Railway police on Sunday arrested two men for allegedly attempting to smuggle three kilogrammes of crystal methamphetamine, known as ice, worth about nine million baht to Songkhla.

Railway police commander Jirasan Kaewsaengake yesterday identified the men as Khanit Panprasong, 21, and Napathorn Ponimdaeng.

Mr Khanit is a student at a vocational institute in Ayutthaya province while Mr Napathorn is a mechanic at a company in Bangkok.

Pol Maj Gen Jirasan said the men boarded a Bangkok-Sungai Kolok train. Railway police were conducting a drug search of passengers' luggage at the time. When the police walked to their seats in the 12th carriage of the  train, they found a black backpack next to Mr Khanit, who was sitting next to Mr Napathorn.

Pol Maj Gen Jirasan said police asked for permission to search it and found three tea bags stuffed with the drugs. When the train arrived at Hua Hin railway station in Prachuap Khiri Khan's Hua Hin district, the police took them for further questioning.

Pol Maj Gen Jirasan said Mr Khanit admitted he had been paid 40,000 baht to bring the drugs to a customer in Songkhla and he had accompanied Mr Napathorn on the trip.

He said Mr Khanit is a student trainee at a company where Mr Napathorn is working. Mr Napathorn denied having anything to do with the drugs shipment.
