Turkish Airlines Becomes the Most Sustainable Airline

Turkish Airlines soars as the "Most Sustainable Flag Carrier Airline" for the second consecutive year.

Turkish Airlines, a prominent player in the aviation industry known for its commitment to sustainability, has been honoured with the prestigious title of "Most Sustainable Flag Carrier Airline" by World Finance, a respected international finance organisation. This marks the second consecutive year that the flag carrier brand has received this esteemed award.

Amidst the significant challenges posed by the climate crisis in the aviation sector, Turkish Airlines stands out for its sustainability-focused initiatives. The airline has implemented various measures, including the voluntary carbon offsetting platform CO2mission, the utilisation of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), the adoption of in-flight sustainable products, efficient waste management practices, and the provision of a sustainable travel experience for its passengers.

Commenting on the award, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Bolat, Chairman of the Board and Executive Committee of Turkish Airlines, stated, "Turkish Airlines has strategically aimed to become one of the top three airlines worldwide in terms of digitalisation within the next three years. In line with our commitment to becoming a Carbon-Neutral Airline by 2050, our company has integrated climate change mitigation plans and commenced the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) since 2022, which we further expanded by adding additional routes in 2023."

Since 2008, Turkish Airlines has undertaken over 100 operational optimisation projects aimed at reducing its carbon footprint. In 2022 alone, the airline achieved a significant fuel savings of 57,581 tons, resulting in the mitigation of 181,379 tons of greenhouse gas emissions.

The World Finance Sustainability Awards are regarded as a prominent reference within the global finance and business communities. These awards are presented to organisations that exhibit exemplary practices in the three dimensions of sustainability: environmental, economic, and social. World Finance, renowned for its evaluations, comments, articles, and news compilations on global banking, finance, and capital markets, has been conducting assessments through expert jury members since 2008 to identify the best institutions in each country across various sectors.
