To mark International Women's Day on March 8, the Bangkok Screening Room will hold the inaugural Fem Film Festival, which will kick off on March 5 and run until March 10. Held in collaboration with Converse, the festival aims to improve perceptions toward women and give them a platform from which to express their identities.

The festival will showcase 10 films, all inspiring stories of women dealing with various obstacles and difficulties in life. The women as featured in the films are from various backgrounds, including politics, music and film. The stories will also detail the loves and friendships they build along the way.

Films to be screened at the festival are The Craft, Silvana, The Miseducation Of Cameron Post, Matangi/Maya/M.I.A., Thelma & Louise, Soufra, Madeline's Madeline, Half The Picture, I Am Not A Witch and Thai film Muen And Ridd by Cherd Songsri. Most are being screened in Thailand for the first time. All will be shown in their original language with Thai subtitles.

In addition to the films, there will be a special talk by Lakana Panvichai (aka Kham Phaka), a well-known feminist, author and social critic, and Wipaphan Wongsawang of thaiconsent.org, a website dedicated to providing a safe space for discussing sex and sexual violence. The talk will be held at the Bangkok Screening Room from 6.15-8.15pm on March 9. Tickets to the talk are 200 baht (170 baht for students). Proceeds from the tickets will be donated to the Association for the Promotion of the Status of Women.

The Bangkok Screening Room is located on the 2nd floor of Woof Pack Building on Sala Daeng 1.
