"The Sophistication Of Three Geniuses" classical concert by the Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra will feature works by Richard Wagner, Maurice Ravel and Franz Schubert.

The concert will take place at Thailand Cultural Centre's Small Hall, Ratchadaphisek Road, on Oct 15 at 7.30pm. Belgian conductor Michel Tilkin will lead the orchestra.

The first piece, Siegfried Idyll, is a symphonic poem written for a chamber orchestra by Richard Wagner. It was a birthday present to his wife after the birth of their second son, Siegfried. He later expanded the orchestration into 35 players, which is how it is commonly played now.

The second is Le Tombeau De Couperin, one of the most notable works by Maurice Ravel. Originally written for a solo piano, the lighthearted composition has six movements, each written in dedication to a friend of one of his two brothers who perished in World War I.

The last piece in the repertoire is Symphony No.2 In B-Flat Major, D 125 by Austrian Franz Schubert. Despite his short life, he was an extremely prolific composer and is ranked among the greatest of Western classical music.

Tickets cost 500 baht (half prices for students and the seniors aged 60 years and older) and can be purchased from Thai Ticket Major outlet (visit thaiticketmajor.com or call 02-262-3456).
