The Nordic Film Festival is back

The Nordic Film Festival is making a comeback on Jan 19-20, though on a smaller scale, and will be hosted by the Nordic embassies of Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland.

The screenings will be held at the Danish Embassy in Sathon and tickets are on a first-come-first-served basis via the Facebook pages of the embassies.

Through carefully curated films, the Nordic Film Festival aims to showcase the essence of Nordic life, humour, traditions and how this expresses itself throughout different aspects of life and society. Don't miss out on this celebration of Nordic culture and the power of storytelling through film.

Over the two days, four films of the four countries will be screened. They are:

Jan 19: 6pm

Amundsen (Norway)

The life and adventures of Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen, the first man to arrive on the South Pole.

Jan 19: 8.15pm

Retfærdighedens ryttere (Riders Of Justice) (Denmark)

Markus goes home to his teenage daughter, Mathilde, when his wife dies in a train crash. All appears to be a tragic accident until a mathematics geek, who was also a fellow passenger on the train, and his two colleagues show up. Starring Mads Mikkelsen.

Jan 20: 6pm

Supermarsu 2 (Super Furball Saves The Future) (Finland)

The story of a bee rescue operation in order to preserve diversity in the world. However, to save the bees, Super Furball must first save the school’s worst bully. The film addresses current social and ecological issues in a relatable, humorous way. It is a new, modern superhero film based on Paula Noronen's popular book series, combining animation and special effects with traditional live action. The film is a sequel to Supermarsu one of the most viewed films in Finland in 2018.

Jan 20: 7.45pm

Triangle Of Sadness (Sweden)

In Ruben Östlund's wickedly funny Palme d'Or winner, social hierarchy is turned upside down, revealing the tawdry relationship between power and beauty. Celebrity model couple, Carl and Yaya, are invited on a luxury cruise for the uber-rich, helmed by an unhinged boat captain (Woody Harrelson). What first appeared Instagrammable ends catastrophically, leaving the survivors stranded on a desert island and fighting for survival.
