After the success of a Nigerian film screening last year, Contemporary World Film Series has announced the screening of another film from Nollywood, an industry that ranks among the top in the world.
Directed by Genevieve Nnaji, Lionheart stars one of the most famous actresses of the country and follows the daughter of a businessman trying to manage her father's transport business after he suddenly falls ill. She faces many ups and downs, especially from men in the industry. There is also the generational conflict between her and her seniors.
The film is an inspiring tale of a strong Nigerian woman who faces all crises with equanimity, even though she has self-doubt. It's truly a tribute to African womanhood. In fact, one of the highlights of the film is that the lead actress also directs.
Another highlight is that the film offers a view of Nigeria's diverse languages, cultures and lifestyles.
There's also a marvellous ensemble cast of top Nigerian artists. The movie created waves at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival and was the country's nomination for the Oscars.
The charge d'affaires of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Mohammed Haidara will introduce the film.
The screening of Lionheart is scheduled for July 27, 4pm, at TK Park, CentralWorld. Admission is 20 baht.
