Harsh message for 'Uncle SMS'

ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT

Outspoken actress Bongkoj ''Tak'' Kongmalai is celebrating the death of lese majeste offender Ampon Tangnoppakul, aka Ah Kong, claiming Thailand will be better off without him.

Ampon died in jail on Tuesday, and in her view went straight to hell.

''It's his karma,'' she pronounced on her Facebook page on the day after his death, while also firing off a few choice remarks at his supporters, asking when they would join him in hell too.

Ah Kong, 62, was sentenced last year to 20 years in prison for sending four text messages which defamed Her Majesties the King and Queen.

He was denied bail eight times while waiting for a decision in his case.

Critics have questioned the fairness of Ah Kong's sentence, whether he even sent the messages and the fact that he was refused bail even though he was ill.

But Tak, who is known in the popular press as ''volcano boobs'', said while she may be guilty of many things, at least knows what she is doing.

''Even if I bared my breasts, or suffered a loss of reputation some other way, I'm not stupid.

''So why do you champion the case of Ah Kong?'' she asked in a message to his supporters.

''And when will you die ... die helping Ah Kong in hell? For he will go to hell for sure ... for defaming my father [the King],'' she said.

''You love Ah Kong. But would you love my family and real father [if you didn't know him]?'' she asked.

''Thailand will be better off without him.''

The pro-monarchist ASTV/Manager website said approvingly that Tak's comments attracted a large number of ''likes'' among her fans.

However, she also has her detractors and has now taken the remarks down.

Asked about her fiery contribution to the Ah Kong debate, Tak said she loved the King, and was entitled to express her feelings.

''Friends called me and asked me what on Earth I was doing. The intenet was lighting up with criticism of my comments, so I took them down,'' she said.

Tak, 27, said she was just another ''kid'' playing on Facebook. She did not want her remarks to be seen in a negative light, and fans should not press her ''like'' button too much.

Tak's mother, Tanapa, said her daughter does not wear criticism of the King easily.

''When she was six or seven, I took Tak to Wat Phra Kaeo [Temple of the Emerald Buddha] to see the King. He reached out his hand, and tousled the hair of her head. Tak was overcome with happiness, and touched his feet,'' she said.

Who was that one-handed man?

Former TV presenter Greg ''Utt'' Uttsada Panichkul denies he was captured on webcam playing with himself, but says he feels sorry for the person bearing his likeness seen masturbating in the clip.

Utt, a former Singapore-based MTV presenter, has returned to Thailand to look for new work opportunities after his contract with the channel ended late last year.

Commenting on the naughty clip, which first surfaced at about the same time, Utt says he has answered reporters' questions about it many times.

''I've come back permanently after 14 years away, only to be confronted with similar questions to those I faced last time I left,'' he said.

Utt, raised overseas, has spent many years in Singapore, where he now runs a company representing modelling talent. Himself a former model, he has long been linked to the gay set.

Stills from the webcam footage of a young man ''helping himself'' were first published on a gay website.

Mainstream media later ran details, and commented on the likeness between his tattoos and those that Utt has. One unkind site parades the clips as the ''real reason'' why Utt lost his job with MTV.

Utt, however, maintains the videos have had little effect on his career.

``Í don't know what to say, I've answered this question so many times already, except that I feel sorry for the person who appears in the clip. I can confirm it's not me. It's all old news now, but I keep meeting claims like this.''

Utt says he intends entering the monkhood as a tribute to his parents, who have now retired.

Aum keeping time with mystery beau

A-list star Patcharapa ``Aum'' Chaichuea, long single and looking for love, has found herself a potential mate.

On the auspicious day of May 5 (5/5/55 in the Thai calendar) she published a picture of herself at an eatery in the company of friends, including her new man.

Her male companion is sitting beside her and only his hand _ wearing a Rolex watch _ and a leg are visible. Underneath the image, which Aum published on Instagram, she has added the caption: ``Someone has stolen my heart. Please call 911.''

Asked about her man friend, the entertainment industry's most eligible female catch said she has no intention of revealing his name as she has with her previous loves, as that only ends in trouble.

``Whenever I reveal the name of a man I'm seeing, everyone crowds in. Even if I draw closer with my friend, I will probably still keep his identity a secret,'' she said.

Aum said she and Mr Rolex had been friends for more than a year, were still sizing each other up as prospective mates, and were of similar age.

``We are not yet boyfriend and girlfriend, as we are still talking. But I don't have great expectations that we will have only each other. We are in the same group of friends, so we clicked.

``I have grown older, and no longer want to go out with youngsters. Seeing someone my own age makes more sense,'' she said.

Aum has been single since she split up with businessman Kornwat ``Note'' Chaiwirawat in May last year, supposedly after Note showed too much interest in various female friends.
