Canadian 'queen of circus' comes to town

ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT

World-class circus performer Erika Lemay will be mesmerising Thai audiences with her extraordinary performance of "physical poetry" at Central Chidlom tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday.

This will be her first visit to the Kingdom to present a show choreographed especially for her called "Le Style Movement by Erika Lemay". It is being staged as part of Central department store's "Summer Fest 2013".

As a girl, this Canadian national tried both ballet and gymnastics before falling in love with the circus where she began to train seriously from the age of 13. She has since won awards at circus competitions around the world, performed for King Harald V and Queen Sonja of Norway, and been invited to give a guest performance with Dita von Teese, the burlesque star at the Cirque du Soleil. More recently she has taken part in prestigious events such as the 66th Venice International Film Festival, the re-launch of La Mamounia, a luxury hotel in Marrakesh, Morocco, and performed in the Norwegian film Half Brother.

Hailed as the new "queen of circus" by Vanity Fair (Italy), the 29-year-old will commence her Bangkok show with the famous "Dance on Hands". It will be staged in the Morakot outdoor car park at Central Chidlom, starting at 6.30pm on each of the three days. Tomorrow's show will be reserved for invited guests.

The remaining two shows will be open to members of the public and there is no admission charge.
