A major pop culture fair, Bangkok Comic Con X Thailand Comic Con, will take place at Royal Paragon Hall from tomorrow until Sunday.

Once a fringe affair, Bangkok Comic Con has grown in popularity and significance, and this year Minister of Culture Veera Rojpojnarat will chair the opening of the fair himself.

A gathering of geek culture, comic enthusiasts, action film buffs, sci-fi fans, anime collectors, cosplay practitioners, idol followers and game players, Bangkok Comic Con X Thailand Comic Con this year welcomes a number of local and international guests and celebrities.

Kelly Hu, a Hollywood actress who stars in The Scorpion King, X2 and The Vampire Diaries, will make an appearance and give an onstage interview. From Italy is Leon Chiro, a professional cosplayer well-known among the video-game cosplay community for his realistic costumes as fantastical characters. From Thailand is Yuegene Fay, a local cosplay star who represented Thailand in the World Cosplay Summit several years ago (a cosplay contest is also part of the programme).

The girl group of the moment BNK48 will perform alongside their sister bands NGT48 on Friday. On Saturday, BNK48 will collaborate with JKT48, their sister band from Jakarta.

Visitors will be able to take a peek at new movies and TV series that are coming out this blockbuster season, such as Deadpool 2, Robin Hood, and other comic-book movies as well as Thai action movies such as Khun Pan 2.

Bangkok Comic Con X Thailand Comic Con is at Royal Paragon Hall, Friday until Sunday. Tickets cost 200 baht.
