Silent voices

Take a seat at the loudest dinner on Earth

SOCIAL & LIFESTYLE

December 3 will see the return of the inimitable, culinary, international dining experience from the Gelinaz, a collective of worldwide cutting-edge chefs: a think-tank made by chefs for chefs, in essence, food curators of a culinary hub that bring together artists, musicians, scientists and thinkers into improvisational collaborations.

Gelinaz Gelinaz

Once again, the collaboration is global and this 4th edition is more soulful than ever. From Dec 13, 130 chefs from around the world, who may or may not be casualties of the pandemic, with their restaurants closed or postponed, caught in-between two phases of their lives in these difficult times. These "in-betweeners", baring their souls enter the Gelinaz experimental playground.

The Gelinaz "Silent Voices" on tour comes in two phases and two different chapters. Chapter One kicks off on Dec 3, the international "stay-in" day when all the chefs stay where they belong -- at home, in their own kitchens. Chapter One includes restaurants that are not experiencing a lockdown at the moment. Each chef has been given total freedom, curating everything, starting with the names of the fellow chefs invited to the venue to "Remix the Matrixes", cooking in teams. (A "matrix" is an original dish, created by a Gelinaz chef, ready to be remixed aka reworked and turned upside down during the performance.)

In Bangkok, Bo.lan is once again the chosen venue for the Gelinaz event. Join chefs Bo Songvisava and Dylan Jones and fellow remixers -- David Thompson of Aksorn, Tim Butler of Eat Me Restaurant, Garima Arora of Gaa, Napol "Joe" Jantraget and Saki Hoshino of 80/20, Chudaree "Tam" Debhakam of Baan Tepa Culinary Space, Prin Polsuk of Samrub For Thai and Weerawat "Num" Triyasenawat of Samuay & Sons for dinner. These chefs will work as a team to "curate the performance". The eight restaurants, 10 chefs, one night extravaganza comes at price of B4,000, with advance payment necessary.

Along with Bangkok on Dec 3 are other cities like Hong Kong, Taipei, Mumbai, Lisbon, Montreal, Buenos Aires, Taichung, Lima, Mexico City, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. Chapter Two is scheduled to take place early 2021 and will put forward a selection of restaurants, mostly in Europe, presently "silenced" in lockdown, along with a new batch of venues in Australia, Philippines, Singapore and the US.
