Clubhouse is the place to be... but it's invite only

Audio-based social networking app Clubhouse has become popular in the past few weeks. The app is similar to a traditional radio station in which a DJ or a moderator allows listeners to participate and speak in a programme. In order to access Clubhouse, users must be invited by a friend and currently, the app is available only on iOS for iPhone and iPad users. Clubhouse has stated that it is working on an Android version but has not set a launch date yet. Due to the app's popularity in Thailand, Clubhouse invitations are being sold on social media and e-commerce websites.

When a user accesses Clubhouse, the easiest way to browse programmes is to select "All Upcoming" or the "Upcoming For You" option that provides programme schedules. The most popular forums for Thai users are the politics and entertainment sections. The number of users in a virtual room has a maximum capacity of 8,000 when moderators are public figures such as scholar and political exile Pavin Chachavalpongpun, Progressive Movement leader Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit, TV host Moddam Kachapa and comedian and actor Jack Fan Chan. Clubhouse is a great opportunity to speak directly with politicians, celebrities or public figures even though you can't see them. Other interesting discussions include technology, investment, language studies and sex. When Yuthana "Pa Ted" Boonorm performed songs he played on two former radio stations, Fat Radio and Hotwave, it really turned Clubhouse into a radio station.
