Rag & bone turns to Cruella de Vil coinciding with release of origin story

SOCIAL & LIFESTYLE

Straight out of the screens, rag & bone continues its collaboration with Disney to launch the limited edition capsule collection of chic ready-to-wear apparels and footwear in celebrating the release of the all-new live action film Cruella that is available in theatres and on the Disney+ platform from today.

Set in 1970s London during the punk rock revolution, Academy Award winner Emma Stone plays the role of the young grifter Estella and the woman soon-to-be-known as Cruella. She befriends a pair of young thieves who appreciate her appetite for mischief, and together they are able to build a life for themselves on the London streets.

One day, Estella's flair for fashion catches the eye of the Baroness von Hellman, starring Emma Thompson, a fashion legend who is devastatingly chic and terrifyingly haute. But their relationship sets in motion a course of events and revelations that will cause Estella to embrace her wicked side and become the raucous, fashionable and revenge-bent Cruella.

To take fashionistas back to the rebellious early days of the legendary Cruella de Vil, one of cinemas' most notorious villains, the rag & bone collection is a reimagination of her graphic black, white and red wardrobe in a laid-back, punk-inspired spin on classic pieces that embody the heritage of timeless British tailoring and authentic quality.

Cruella's attitude and the film's setting are woven throughout the striking designs. The collection features a denim trucker jacket with frayed edges, white denim jeans with slits at the knee and chain detail at the hip, a bright red feminine slip dress with black contrast colour-blocking, a heritage tweed jacket and skirt set with lightweight, oversized tailoring and essentials like a sporty hoodie and graphic tee round out the ready to wear range.

Diving deep to the spirit of iconic villain character, Cruella's initials are embroidered on a custom leather patch on the back of a straight leg jean, contrast piping on the red silk-lined leather biker jacket, and graphic lettering inside the denim jacket and across the tee. At the same time, the series of footwear is designed to be equally easy to wear such as the Parker Sandal, a classic leather slide, and the Alistor, a modern take on the masculine monk strap shoe.

Rag & bone has been recognised for a combination of English heritage with edgy yet understated New York aesthetic. Back in 2017, rag & bone joined hands with Disney to design the sold-out limited-edition collection Star Wars: The Last Jedi before launching a unisex drop to celebrate the 90th birthday of the much-loved cartoon character Mickey Mouse in 2018.
