Run a circular economy with Asics

To mark World Environment Day, Asics has transformed around five tonnes of textile waste, equivalent to 25,000 T-shirts, into a cross-category line of the eco-friendly Earth Day Pack that includes its running court, sport-style sneakers.

Including the Gel-Nimbus 23, Glideride 2, GT 1000 10, Gel-Resolution 8, Tarther Blast, Gel Lyte III OG and Skycourt models, their sock linings are developed using a resource-saving technology that reduces CO2 emissions by around 45% and cuts water use by around 33% compared to conventional dyeing processes.

"Since our founding in 1949, Asics' purpose has been to help people achieve a sound mind in a sound body. But for that, they need a sound Earth to exercise on. That's why we're committed to playing our part in building a circular economy that helps reduce CO2 emissions and keep global warming at less than 1.5C. It is said that only 1% of the world's textile waste is upcycled while over 70% of apparel ends up in landfill or incinerators. By continuing to innovate the manufacturing process across all our product categories, we can help build a circular economy and mitigate the impact of climate change," said Yasuhito Hirota, president and chief operating officer of Asics.

Each piece features the sunflower logo as well as an intricate seed graphic representing Asics' ongoing commitment to planting the seeds of a brighter future. The two arrows in the centre of the emblem denote the ambition to help build a circular economy. The percentage of recycled materials used in each of the Earth Day Pack products varies -- at least 30% of upper polyester for running shoes; at least 40% of primary material of the upper for the sport-style shoes and for tennis shoes; and at least 40% of the base mesh of the upper. The prices range from 3,500 baht to 6,500 baht.

Following the release of the Sunrise Reborn Pack earlier this year, the Earth Day Pack is made with recycled clothing collected in Japan and employs the same advanced technology to create a range of upcycled apparel and footwear for the Japan team to wear during an international sporting event.
