Siam Piwat invites interested people to enter the "Spogomi World Cup 2023 Thailand Stage", the country's first litter pick-up competition, which will take place at Parc Paragon in Siam Paragon on July 2. Applications can be made until June 18.

This is a Japanese sport dating back to 2008. As the massive amount of garbage has increasingly caused a damaging effect on the world, a Japanese guy named Kenichi Mamitsuka became interested in solving the problem by incorporating trash picking into his exercise routine.

His creative idea gave birth to a trash-picking sport which has become a competition called Spogomi. It combines the words meaning sport and trash in Japanese.

The competition has been held successively in Japan to raise awareness and encourage people to tackle trash and practise waste sorting. The new sport also educates and promotes environmental protection to a broader scale of people.

To amplify the waste subject matter and its impacts on the environment to the world, the first Spogomi World Cup will be held in Tokyo this November and contestants from across the globe will participate.

The qualifying event in Bangkok is open to teams of three members, with at least one of them aged above 18 years old and two of them being Thai nationals residing in Thailand. The winning team will represent the country to compete in the World Cup in Japan while the first and second runner-up teams will receive a gift voucher worth 6,000 and 3,000 baht respectively from Ecotopia.

There is no application fee. Visit gyucreative.com/spogomi-thailand.
