This year, Ikea turns 80 and in celebration it brings back a selection of iconic home furnishings hand-picked from their archive.
The collection invites fans to return to the future by immersing themselves in products that are reimagined in bright, joyful colours and new materials. Nytillverkad honours Ikea’s unique take on design as simple, functional and always a little playful.
The Nytillverkad collection, which takes inspiration from the 1984 Ikea catalogue, stays true to the original designs reinventing them in colour with vibrant graphic lines and updated materials, resulting in products that fit into any modern lifestyle.
Highlights are the Lövbacken side table (B2,590), which is the Ikea “love letter to a side table”. In 1956, Ikea produced one of its most iconic pieces of furniture of all time, the Lövet. In this collection, it has been brought back as the Lövbacken. The stackable Domsten stool (B890), was created by Karin Mobring and was released in 1973 as Jerry.
The Bondskäret hat and coat stand (B1,490), is tree-shaped and created by Rutger Andersson in 1978 as Smed. The Tuvkornell candle holder (B299) was designed by Marianne Hagberg and Knut Hagberg in 1982 and released as Cylinder. The Kulturskog side table (B1,490) was launched in 1957, under the name of Balja and termed as a solution “for your winter garden”.
The colourful Bladhult pattern, created by Sven Fristedt, was released in 1980 for the Klippan sofa. It has now been re-released as Krypkornell (B590). The Slöjsilja (B790), duvet cover and pillowcase was first released as a broad-striped Ilex pattern, created by Sven Fristedt in 1983.
The Nytillverkad collection is in stores and online. Additionally, Ikea will be revealing more items to create excitement throughout this year and next. Updates will be available at Ikea stores and Ikea.co.th.
