Number 1 Gallery is holding "Montage", which brings back topics of the past through artwork from Saturday to Jan 13.

This is the sixth solo exhibition by Pat Yingcharoen, a special teacher and art lecturer at Silpakorn University, who has combined his interest in history with painting, using contemporary techniques in his own style.

His works in the past shows often touched on topics that were "sensitive" in the eyes of the then military government and were prohibited from being criticised by the public, thus affecting the freedom of speech.

This exhibition, however, is comparatively a retrospective and a review to find a conclusion of his painting processes over the past decade.

It can be defined as a composition of the historical scraps that have been vanished from their eras but are now brought back to life to communicate certain forbidden matters that haven't been told from the mouths of living people.

On the other hand, it shows that when a work has gone past its creator, it still has to go on to seek the meaning of its existence, just like the monster of Victor Frankenstein that was created from the body of a dead man, the wings of Icarus in the Greek mythology, and the legend of the Tower of Babel. The artist hopes the new show brings about conversation that lasts long in the viewers' memories. Number 1 Gallery is on Silom 21 and opens Tuesday to Sunday from 10am to 7pm.
