Tiny cup, big flavours

THE SET-UP

SOCIAL & LIFESTYLE

There comes a time when moo ping and canned coffee just won’t do for breakfast anymore and you need real food to start your day (or nurse your hangover). A recent entry to the early birds’ sector is Tiny Cup Cafe which prides itself on breakfast items, baked goods and booster smoothies (and quite rightfully so). Their other source of pride should be the venue’s quaint atmosphere which, unlike what your bed partner looks like first thing in the morning, is cute and inviting. There’s a private room with a sky light that can comfortably accommodate about eight people on the mezzanine level and we think it’s perfect for brunching with friends. Even the bathroom is cute. Given the adorable atmosphere, no wonder Japanese housewives are among the regulars on weekdays. The other weekday regulars are people who live in nearby condos and freelancers. The weekend sees groups of girls and families.

THE MENU

Pumpkin bread grilled vegetable sandwich

Full English breakfast (B380) is how champions start their day. Two eggs can be done three ways: sunny side up, omelette or scrambled. The scrambled eggs are jiggly with a hint of cream while the omelette is soft but not leaky and contains specks of black pepper. The sausage has a tasty stuffing while a big slice of ham has a delicious fat layer. There are also choices of coffee with the breakfast. Vegetarian or not, you should find Pumpkin bread grilled vegetable sandwich (B180) surprisingly hearty, thanks to many thin layers of grilled veggies, pesto and cheese. Orange passion (B130) is light and refreshing with passion fruit puree which has its sharp tartness muted with bits of orange and icy raspberry. For something creamier, try sweet and smooth sips from Mango avocado smoothie (B140). Macadamia caramel cheesecake (B130) is worth a trip to the gym afterwards. It offers luscious layers but no sugary sensation. The menu also includes pasta dishes, salads and toasts.

INSIDER TIP

Tall people should walk upstairs with their heads lowered to avoid bumping into the ceiling. Chitraphan “Tap” Charanachitta is the owner of both Tiny Cup Cafe and its predecessor Buttercup. She graduated from Le Cordon Bleu Dusit. A 30 per cent discount on bakery items is available during happy hour, which takes place from 5-7pm on weekdays.

SOCIAL MEDIA MOMENTS

With country dining chairs and cabinets lined with beautiful cups on display, the place is photogenic by itself. We think a snap of the big breakfast set lit up by natural light may have some of your followers drooling over the screen.

VALUE & VERDICT

Tiny Cup stands tall with its flavour, reasonable pricing, and atmosphere. If you live or work in Thong Lor and want to start the day in style, definitely drop by. We also think it suits girly gatherings on the weekends. Despite its name, your cup (and plate) will surely runneth over here. G
