A sparkling night to remember gets a touch of pastels and flowers

SOCIAL & LIFESTYLE

Getting dressed up for a good cause has always been the mantra of the well-to-do, and so it was with the first Ratree Sri Kanphai Night, held recently in the ballroom of the Imperial Queen’s Park Hotel.

Graced by Her Royal Highness Princess Soamsawali, the gala dinner was held to raise funds for the Mahidol University Foundation under the royal patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, to provide scholarships for medical students as well as to provide opportunities for the handicapped.

The foyer of the ballroom was a sea of froth as guests of all ages in fairy-tale pastel ballgowns posed for media cameras as well as selfies. Soon everyone was seated in preparation for the arrival of HRH Princess Soamsawali.

After a few welcome speeches, a video presentation served to introduce the Mahidol University Foundation. The princess then presented pins to all the donors, most of whom would soon take to the stage to sing or model the jewellery from Beauty Gems.

During dinner, guests were entertained by a number of professional as well as guest singers. The jewellery fashion show followed, featuring 15 sets of sparkling jewellery being punctuated by the star of the show, the Flower, set with 88 carats of white diamonds, and the “Ratree Sri Kanphai” set inspired by the Kanphai Mahidol flower.

Another round of songs provided a break before the next fashion presentation. HRH Princess Soamsawali then presented flowers to representatives of the organising committee and performers before leaving.
