As pollution from agricultural burning starts to cover vast swathes of Thailand once again at this time of year, LG is offering the PuriCare AeroTower fan that also filters dust and impurities -- PM10, PM2.5 and PM1.

PM stands for Particulate Matter, which denotes airborne particles such as dust, bacteria and pollen. The number represents the size of the particulate matter in microns, for example PM1 refers to ultra-fine particles that are less than 1 micron in size.

I live in a very crowded residential area in Bangkok and have five cats in the house. I personally have no allergies, but many of my family members have dust allergy, and they confirmed this air purifier (plus a fan) helps them breathe easier and sneeze significantly less.

Unfiltered air enters through inlets in the AeroTower base which contain round, multistage filters that use HEPA filtration to remove dust, allergens, smoke and other contaminants. The filters also employ a deodorising element and have an ultra-mesh screen that collects pollen, dust, dander and other larger particles. LG says their AeroTower's UVnano LED technology kills 99.9% of bacteria that can build up on the interior filter fan blades.

LG claims this device has been tested by Seoul University and can also get rid of 99.9% of viruses in the air. This device was also shown by the South Korea Clean Air Association to reduce five types of pollution. In a city with plenty of dust, like Bangkok, it is reassuring to know it can assist your nose and lungs.

This LG PuriCare AeroTower uses a three-layered dust filter to clean the air. The filter has a 12-month lifespan but may need to be replaced slightly sooner if the air quality around the house is very bad.

This air purifier's size is quite significant, it towers at around 1.5m, but it's narrow enough to not take up too much floor space. And since it has a cylindrical shape, it has no problem cleaning air even when placed in the corner of a room.

It can be set to rotate and cool a room while filtering out dust particles. The motorised base can be set to rotate 45, 60, 90, or 140 degrees. The fan is quiet, around 23 decibels only, but at max airflow it is noticeably louder. The device can handle a room size of around 76m² max.

There are also light indicators to show how bad the air around you is. The indicators tell you the levels of PM10, PM2.5, PM1.0, dust, humidity and temperature. Luckily, these light indicators can be turned off for better sleep.

There is a remote control that can be magnetically attached to the machine. Unfortunately, there's no markings to indicate where, so the remote often falls off.

The PuriCare AeroTower has an accompanying mobile app called LG ThinQ that can control the machine from afar, but I found it disconnects a little too often. This air purifier also doesn't have voice control. You'll need to reach for the remote or press on the device itself instead of yelling at it.

At around 17,000 baht, the LG PuriCare AeroTower is a great gadget to have for people with allergies.
