Croatia's Renato Kelic has joined Chonburi from fellow Thai League 1 side Buriram United, the Sharks announced yesterday.

The defender was unveiled as Chonburi player by Witthaya Laohakul, the club's techincal development chairman.

"I am very excited and happy to be part of Chonburi. They are one of the big teams in Thailand and have a long history in the Thai league with a large number of supporters," Kelic said.

The 29-year-old defender played his last game for Buriram on Saturday when the Thunder Castle won 2-0 at Chonburi.

"I played against Chonburi before joining the team. I was really surprised by their young players who played well. I will try to help them and the team," Kelic said.

Kelic joined Buriram a few months ago and scored three goals in 12 matches for the former champions.

After 16 games, Chonburi are eighth in the league on 22 points, 22 behind runaway leaders BG Pathum United.

Meanwhile, defending champions Chiang Rai United have signed Brazilian striker Felipe da Silva from Suphanburi.

Felipe joined Suphanburi earlier this season and played 15 matches for them in all competitions.

Chiang Rai have been less than impressive in the defence of their title this term.

The Beetles are currently fifth, trailing pacesetters BG by 18 points with two games in hand.

Thai League 1 will resume on Jan 9 although Chiang Rai will play their rearranged match against Port on Jan 5.

BG Pathum are 10 points ahead of second-placed Port who have a game in hand.
