Relegated Sukhothai have vowed to stand up and fight for a quick return to Thai League 1.

The Fire Bats' fate was sealed on the final day of the 2020 season on Sunday after they lost to Suphanburi who will remain in the top flight next season.

Sukhothai chairwoman Anongwan Thepsuthin said all players and officials were disappointed by the outcome.

"No one at the club wanted this to happen," she said.

"We must put it out of our minds quickly and prepare for next season. We have to stand up and fight. Playing in Thai League 2 is not easy as all teams want to get promoted to Thai League 1."

Anongwan said it was understandable that players would want to leave Sukhothai for their own future.

"It is not unusual that players want to play in the top league. Some of our players are good enough to play in Thai League 1 and we won't force them to stay with us," Anongwan said.

"I'd like to promise that there will be changes and we will fight together to return [to Thai League 1] as soon as possible."

Sukhothai, who gained promotion to the top flight in 2016, got off to a good start to the 2020 season, but gradually got out of sorts.

Meanwhile, a lot of Sukhothai players were frustrated and sad after the demotion.

Captain John Baggio of Madagascar reportedly punched a mirror in the dressing room and injured his hand.

The midfielder and Brazilian forward Ibson Melo are among the club's best players.
