After a 1-0 loss to Qatar in the Dubai Cup on Wednesday night, Thailand U23 coach Worrawoot Srimaka is expecting a better performance from the War Elephants in their next game of the U23 tournament.

Qatar got the winning goal in the 32nd minute when Moustafa Tarek struck on a counter-attack on the opening day of the event in the United Arab Emirates.

The War Elephants are scheduled to take on China in their next outing on Saturday at 7pm, Thai time.

Worrawoot said it was a good start by the team considering that some of the key players had to be rested.

"We came here immediately after the weekend matches in the domestic leagues. Some of the players were involved in the Sunday games and needed time to recover," said the Thai coach.

"We have hardly had any time to practise together.

"I apologise to the Thai fans for the result but I think all the players did well in the match against Qatar. They all showed their fighting spirit.

"We did create a lot of chances but were unable to convert them. Had we taken all those chances the result of the match would have been different.

"I am hoping for an improvement in the next game against China. We have two days to sort things out and get ready for the match."
