Struggling Thai League 1 side Chonburi have appointed their former player Adul Lasoh as coach.

The former Thailand midfielder replaces Sasom Pobprasert who resigned after the Sharks suffered a 3-1 home loss to Chiang Rai United at the weekend.

Chonburi were contenders for the title before the league took a break at the end of last year. But they have become out-of-sorts since the league resumed in January with one win, one draw and eight losses in their last 10 games, and now sit seventh.

"It is an honour for me to come back to the family here once again," said Adul, a product of the team's academy.

"We will play for wins in the remaining four matches to bring back faith to our fans. I believe we can do it."

Adul admitted that he was surprised by the appointment and vowed to change the team's fortunes.

"I hope Chonburi will go back to where we belong and become a top team again," said Adul, who helped the Sharks win the league in 2007 and the FA Cup in 2010 during his playing days.

Chonburi U18 coach Nattawut Wijitvetchakarn has been named Adul's assistant while Sasom is now a club adviser.

The league is taking a break for the Songkran festival and will resume on April 22. Chonburi next play at bottom side Lampang on April 23.
