Buriram United shifted their focus to the two domestic cup competitions as a 2-1 victory over Chiang Rai United on Saturday night assured them of their eighth Thai League 1 crown.

With the first trophy of the season already secured, the Thunder Castle are now aiming to complete a domestic sweep by capturing the FA and League Cups as well.

The away victory at Chiang Rai gave Buriram an unassailable lead in the top flight.

Second-placed Bangkok United thrashed Police Tero 4-1 last night to trail the Thunder Castle by 12 points with only three matches remaining.

Willen Mota scored a hat-trick for the Angels which included two goals from the penalty spot and their fourth was delivered by Mahmoud Eid in the dying moments of the match.

Marc Landry netted Police's only goal seven minutes from time.

Also last night, Nakhon Ratchasima were held to a 1-1 draw by visiting Port.

Nakhon Ratchasima were off to a great start with Jordan Murray picking up a long ball from Tyronne Gustavo to put the Swat cats ahead in the second minute of the match.

Port were the better team in the second half and Worachit Kanitsribumphen gave them the deserved point with an equaliser in the 72nd minute.

Buriram got the goals from Goran Causic in the 30th minute and Pansa Hemviboon in the 67th minute.

The Beetles' only goal was scored by Kim Ji-Min after 72 minutes.

Buriram coach Masatada Ishii was happy with his team's performance on Saturday night.

"The conditions were tough, but it wasn't about weather," said Ishii. "We played our game and that's what made the difference."

"The weather and everything else on the pitch were the same for the both sides, but we stuck to our style and plan for the match.

"I think we owe a lot to our fans as well. They have been loyal to us throughout the season and even travelled great distances to support the team."

No other club has dominated the top league the way Buriram United have done.

The Thunder Castle first lifted the trophy in 2011 when the tournament was called the Thai Premier League.

In other matches on Saturday night, hosts Sukhothai defeated BG Pathum United 2-0 and Khon Kaen United edged Lamphun Warriors 1-0.
