ONE Fight Night 13 is in the books, and it was another action-packed night of martial arts at Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok.
In the August 5 headliner, ONE featherweight kickboxing world champion Chingiz Allazov got his redemption against old foe Marat Grigorian.
“Chinga” kept a relentless pace over the five-round contest and, ultimately, outworked the man who defeated him 10 years ago to take home the unanimous decision.
The victory was Allazov’s fifth straight since his debut loss to Enriko Kehl, taking the Azerbaijani-Belarusian star’s overall mark to 60-5.
In the co-main event, ONE flyweight submission grappling world champion Mikey Musumeci fought off a determined Jarred Brooks, defending his strap with a triangle-armbar submission.
“Darth Rigatoni” was made to work by the ONE strawweight MMA world champion, but eventually his ability to string together submissions proved too much as he pulled off the submission 7:30 into the 10-minute bout.
Musumeci remains undefeated in his ONE tenure so far, and the former four-time IBJJF BJJ world champion hinted in the ring post-fight that another big announcement is in store for later this year.
Thai superstar Tawanchai PK Saenchai made a successful start to his foray in the kickboxing ranks with a crushing TKO win over Georgian veteran Davit Kiria.
The ONE featherweight Muay Thai world champion used his slick footwork to frustrate Kiria and land a relentless barrage of left kicks from his southpaw stance and, eventually, they took their toll.
Kiria’s right arm appeared to be compromised at the start of the third round, and Tawanchai wasted no time capitalising. The 24-year-old slammed yet another kick into the vulnerable limb to force his foe to surrender just 29 seconds into the final frame.
Tawanchai will put his Muay Thai strap on the line next against former kickboxing king Superbon Singha Mawynn at ONE Fight Night 15 in October.
Also on the card, former ONE bantamweight world champion John Lineker beat the buzzer with a stunning knockout of Kim Jae Woong. “Hands of Stone” appeared to be down on the scorecards when he dispatched the South Korean contender with a signature power punch, forcing the referee to wave off the contest with just four seconds left.
Oumar Kane handed Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu legend Marcus Almeida his first professional MMA loss earlier in the night. An exhausted “Reug Reug” prevailed by unanimous decision after an epic, back-and-forth ward that will no doubt be a contender for “fight of the year” honors.
The finish-laden event also saw Enkh-Orgil Baatarkhuu, Tye Ruotolo, Kane, Tawanchai, and Musumeci each receive B1.75 million performance bonuses.
