A goalless draw at Sukhothai on Saturday night has dealt a big blow to leaders Bangkok United's hopes for a first Thai League 1 crown.
The Angels were not the only title-chasing side to drop points on Saturday night as Port also had a lucky escape to settle for a 1-1 draw at bottom-placed PT Prachuap.
The stalemate at Sukhothai left Bangkok United only two points in front of defending champions Buriram United, who were heavy favourites to win at Trat last night and replace the Angels at the top.
Meanwhile, a second-half own goal spared Port's blushes and their coach Rangsan Vivatchaichok admitted that his team were lucky to return home with a point to their credit.
Hosts PT Prachuap started off well as South Korean striker Jeong Woo-Guen put the Killer Wasps ahead in the 19th minute.
Port equalised after 57 minutes when Prachuap defender Airton Tirabassi headed a Pakorn Prempak free-kick into his own goal.
After the match, Rangsan said: "We are lucky to get a point from this game. We were without our suspended first-choice striker Barros Tardeli and it did affect our performance in the offence.
"We knew that they [Prachuap] wanted three points from this game, but the way things were I am quite happy with the one point we got from this game."
PT Prachuap coach Sasom Pobprasert said: "This is the third match in a row that we have got a draw.
"Actually, we had chances but then Port have a strong defence. We were up against a big team so I think one point is okay for our team."
Elsewhere, Mateus Lima scored an injury-time winner to help Ratchaburi pick up three points with a 1-0 victory over hosts Police Tero and Lamphun Warriors got the better of Chonburi, recording a 2-1 victory at home on Saturday night.
