Roadside bomb blast injures three policemen in Yala

Three policemen were injured, one seriously, after a bomb exploded on a road in Yala's Raman district and sprayed their pickup with shrapnel yesterday morning.

Police said the attack took place at 10.20am, as the pickup was passing through Tano Puye, or Moo 3 village, in tambon Kae Ro. The bomb, which was concealed by the side of the road, was detonated remotely, they said.

Pol Snr Sgt Maj Seksan Chaiman, Pol L/Cpl Haleem Hadlo and Pol L/Cpl Nurdin Chete were injured by the explosion, which struck the left side of the vehicle. Pol L/Cpl Nurdin, who was most seriously wounded in the incident, was rushed to Yala Hospital, while the rest were taken to Raman Hospital.

Meanwhile, Ronnarong Poolphiphat, director of the Trade Policy and Strategy Office (TPSO), yesterday said confidence in the economy and social development in the five southern provinces has risen.

The region's score went up from 50.90 points in the second quarter to 51.87 points in the third quarter, which meant people are more confident in the region's economic and social development.

The index was put together by the TPSO and the Southern Border Provinces Administration Centre (SBPAC), based on the opinions of 34,000 people in the five provinces. That said, people are less confident about the area's security situation, he said.
